Hi! and welcome to my Home Page

About me,  I was born in Sydney, Australia, where I grew up. Since leaving Sydney, I have lived in almost every state of this country. The only exception is Tasmania, but I have visited there a number of times. Currently, I live in Queensland, in a small community near Toowoomba, on the Great Dividing Range.

I share my home with a multitude of birds, all wild and all beautiful. There are still platypus in the creek but they are shy and do not show themselves too readily. Possums, sugar-gliders, tawny frogmouths, wallabies, the occasional koala; they are all still to be found here, although numbers are dwindling due to the increasing human population and also to the drought we recently experienced. That is over now and we had some lovely rain, unfortunately followed by some devastating flash floods which claimed the lives of a number of residents of this small village. For all the heartache, we Australians understand that this is the nature of our country, a land of drought and flooding rains.

The people here are friendly, and I joined a book club soon after arriving so I get to share my love of books and reading with some lovely people.

In short, in spite of the occasional hardships, it is a wonderful place to live and write.

Tips for writers

Most writers have more ideas than they can use in their stories in a lifetime of writing. Where do these ideas come from? Unfortunately, there is no magic formula that allows a writer to pluck ideas from thin air, but there are ways to attract them.

Writers observe their surroundings and are constantly taking notes. After a time, this becomes instinctive, something writers do without being consciously aware of it.

They know that all the ideas they will ever want are out there; all they need do is to be open to them. Begin jotting whatever comes to you into a notebook. When an idea inspires you, research it. Before long you will discover that matters related to your idea just keep popping up.

So, what do you need to do to find ideas? You must:
     1 Read, constantly.
2 Clip stories that give you ideas and file them.
3 Take note of your surroundings.
     4 Look and listen.
5 Carry a notebook with you and keep notes.
6 Whatever you do, don’t strain after ideas; just be open as you read and go about your daily      life..... More
