My Journal:
December 2009
The last day of the year and here I am, on time. Thank my brother, Stephen, who sent me a reminder via skype. What a nag!
It's been a funny sort of month; lots of endings but no real beginnings. All the groups I am part of held their 'last for the year' meetings and for these last 3 weeks I've had nowhere to go and nothing much to do. Well, that's not quite true; plenty to do but not much motivation.
Christmas Day was much like any other day for me, with family so far away. Without children around, there doesn't seem much point and apart from a shelf full of Christmas cards, I put no decorations up. I spent the four days lazing around, reading and watching videos. A nice quiet time, which suited me. Once I felt that I had 'celebrated' enough, I got stuck into my spring cleaning.
I generally try to do a major clean twice a year, once just before spring, and again in December or January. In years gone by I would do it all over 2 days; now it takes me a full week, but at least I can still manage to do it without help. The weather was very kind - still is - and after some sweltering days, it was lovely to see the rain. Over 2 weeks, we've had about 100ml, which has been enough to green things up a lot but nowhere near enough to say the drought is ended. We'll need at least 4 times that much over the next month or so before we can breathe easy.
My eldest daughter arrives here tomorrow, and my granddaughter on Saturday, so I plan on spending the next week doing nothing much at all. Once they leave, I'll have to get stuck into work though - my diary is beginning to fill up with it.
Happy New Year to all. May 2010 bring you all that you wish for.
